This is about to get REALLY confusing...

So SBC just bought AT&T. SBC is the majority owner of Cingular which purchased AT&T Wireless(separate company from AT&T) last year, doing away with the AT&T Wireless name and forcing everyone with an AT&T phone to "upgrade" to a cingular phone. Well now SBC is going to make Cingular rebrand as AT&T.
So if you have an old AT&T phone, you will need to go to a Cingular store and trade it in for a new AT&T phone. This is going to get ugly.

Great Seattle Mobile meeting

We had a record turnout for Monday night's Seattle Mobile meeting; a very crowded 70+. Standing room only for a lot of people. Now we are on the hunt for a larger space in or near downtown. A Big thanks to our presenters and their colleagues from Infospace and Google, and everyone who attended.

iSync therefor I am

I've just switched mobile phones. I was using the Nokia 3230

and have just moved to the Nokia 6682.

The big motivator was the ability to sync with my iBook. I was able to previously with my Nokia 6600, but when I switched to the 3230 I lost support. The 6682 is a much nicer and much faster device. I like being able to have a toolbar on the idle screen for my favorite apps instead of just the two softkeys. This display of the 6682 is also the nicest I've seen on a Nokia so far. But by far the best part is definitely the sync'ing. It is SO nice to have my calendar and contacts synchronized with my iCal and Address book on my iBook. Love that bluetooth.

Flotsam, Jetsam and Boughtsam

We buy a lot of phones from eBay on a regular basis. We get probably 5 or 6 packages a week from eBay sellers; all phones. One of the interesting side effects of buying all these phones from different people on eBay is the interesting "stuff" that comes in the box. So I've come up with a new word: boughtsam. "Boughtsam" is anything that comes in a package from an eBay seller, in addition to what you've purchased. This can be packing materials or anything else the seller thought to put in the box.
We get some really interesting packaging materials with some of these phones.

"Thanks for sending our $300 phone wrapped in your recycled garbage."

Today we actually got a band flyer and two CD's from someone trying to promote their band.
When you have to resort to eBay sales as a promotional channel for your band, you are seriously scraping the bottom of the barrel.

We've received some religious materials in the past and a Lance Armstrong Livestrong bracelet; child sized. What the heck am I supposed to do with that?

Microsoft "Live"

Well I've been trying to figure out MS Live all week. This still doesn't make a lot of sense to me? Can someone explaing to me in a way that doesn't make Microsoft look like they are just throwing up a lame Web 2.0 "Me Too". Anyone remember MS "Blackbird"?

Maybe I am just confused by their visual aids:

Worst slide ever! Looks like Gates is giving a weather report, and the 10 day forcast is not looking good.
